One of the highlights of Castillo de San Marcos is that, periodically, they do a live-fire demonstration with one of the fort’s cannons. Interestingly, the demonstrators pointed out that each cannon would only fire once every 15 minutes. This is quite a departure from how Hollywood films portray such battles. Even so, the fortress was equipped with 60 cannons, even this slow firing rate would result in a large amount of firepower going down range. The advantage of a slow firing rate is that accuracy increases, making every shot count.
